Prime Minister Rosevelt SkerritThe government says it’s Public Support Programme, popularly known as the Red Clinic has helped to better the lives of many Dominicans. There have been criticisms by the opposition from its interception, that the government is creating a culture of dependency with this initiative, a statement the government objects.According to a press release issued this week, the public support programme has saved the lives of persons in critical medical condition and enable students at institutions of learning to remain enrolled, thereby continuing their courses after they have been threatened with suspension by these institutions for late payment of tuition fees.It said the public support program was initiated by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to assist persons to overcome social challenges in the areas of health, education, small business, housing, sports, culture and personal matters which requires urgent attention.“Payments are made at the Government Treasury once all the accounting procedures have been followed and the votes for this program are audited by the office of the Director of Audit,”.The statement also refuted claims that the prime minister hands over cash or cheques to applicants in his office under this programme.“All payments are made at the government treasury and in some cases employees at the office of the prime minister may assist in the collection of cheques, especially in emergency situations where patients are to be air-lifted to destinations overseas for medical attention.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
