Acting Chief of Police, Daniel CarbonDaniel Carbon of Vieille Case who was promoted to the position of acting chief of police recently, hopes to build on the image of that organization during his stint at the helm.Carbon, who has been a police officer for twenty-six years, was promoted to this position on July 7th, 2012.He was enlisted into the force on 16th January, 1985 and has worked in several divisions of the service, however investigative and prosecutorial work are his forte.Carbon was promoted to the rank of corporal in 1992 after being “very successful” at the constable’s qualifying course and was transferred to the Grand Bay police station where he worked for seven years. In 1998, he was appointed to the rank of sergeant, promoted to inspector in 200, and was also a police prosecutor at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court, which did for “about seventeen years”.He was promoted to the rank of assistant superintendant of police in 2008, where he headed the traffic department, was promoted to acting deputy commissioner of police in 2010, and appointed to the rank of superintendant in 2011.He describes himself as a “well rounded police man” who enjoys performing his duties, and does so with “passion”.He anticipates that under his leadership, police officers will be motivated to perform their duties with a great sense of pride and professionalism.“I would like to, under my leadership, build on the image of the police force. I would like to know that under my leadership the force is very professional, invariably so, that they perform their duty constantly and consistently with professionalism”.Carbon explained that this position will be a challenging one; however he anticipates the support of the entire force.“It is a challenge for me I must say; I know what the challenges are, I have to hit the ground running. I pray and look forward to the support of all my staff. I am looking forward to very good relations with all of my officers; every single one of them from the last recruit to my deputy”.He also highlighted the importance of working as a unit with his staff.“We have to be united here; there is the old saying that you have to be a man in your yard before you are a man abroad, so I am looking forward to building a core unit and then tackle the challenges that are outside of the police force”. “I am not an island by myself alone, I am not infallible, but I have a job to do and a job I will do,” he emphasized. The fact that he is in an acting position until September 30, 2012 is not a deterrent; in fact, it is motivation to keep him focused on the task at hand.“I take it a day at a time and by that I mean everything that comes across in a day, I deal with it. I will not stay back and ponder on the fact that I am in an acting position. I have a job to do and it is a job I will do”.Carbon replaces Cyril Carette who retired from the police force on July 6th, 2012.Dominica Vibes News Sharecenter_img LocalNews Acting police chief wants to build on image of police force by: – July 11, 2012 Share 22 Views   no discussionslast_img
