Instead they lost matches to kids they had beaten. We lost two matches by a point. It was just a bad tournament for us.”Wellington placed ninth in the Clearwater tournament. The Crusaders now set their sights at Clearwater this Thursday for a very important double dual with Andale. The festivities begin on Thursday at 5 p.m.How bad was it? McComb said the team could have finished fourth. He said a lot of teams in this tournament will be seen in the Class 4A Regional in Winfield. Of the eight teams in the regional, Wellington only beat two team wise in Clearwater.“I was mad after the first round and let them have it,” McComb said. “But they didn’t get any better.”For the day, Wellington had two wrestlers place third: Andrew Pelkey at 145 and Taylon Lamkin at 195. This was Pelkey’s second loss of the season. He lost to a Mulvane wrestler he beat in the double dual last week.Lamkin lost by pin to an Ottawa wrestler, who was ranked third in Class 4A.Vince Ast at 170 and Tyson Hodson at heavyweight placed fifth. Brad Wiens and Ben DeJarnett at 152 placed sixth.Dalton Holt at 220 injury defaulted because of hyperventilation issues at 220. He is listed as questionable for the double dual.McComb will have 13 wrestlers going up to Clearwater. Matt Mason has rejoined the team at 120 pounds.
