Highland Village Museum and CBC Mainstreet are teaming up to celebrate the release of a collection of Gaelic Cape Breton stories on Wednesday, Aug. 15. The Blue Mountains and Other Gaelic Stories from Cape Breton is a bilingual anthology of 30 Gaelic stories collected by Celtic culture expert John Shaw. The selections come from 17 Cape Breton storytellers and feature many types of stories including humourous, supernatural, tall tales, legends and international tales. Among the storytellers appearing on the pages of The Blue Mountains are the late Joe Neil MacNeil, Dan Angus Beaton, Johnny Williams, Neil John Gillis and Hector Carmichael. Stories are drawn from across the island. Mr. Shaw will sign copies of The Blue Mountains and give comments on the importance of Cape Breton stories and storytellers. Guests can also look forward to entertainment from musicians and step dancers Kyle and Keith MacDonald, Tiber Falzett and Meaghan O’Handley. Gaelic singer Joanne MacIntyre and friends will also entertain. The book launch will be held in the Highland Village Tuning Room from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. All welcome.
