Qantas awards top Aussie tourism businesses

first_img<a href=”http://www.etbtravelnews.global/click/271ba/” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://adsvr.travelads.biz/www/delivery/avw.php?zoneid=10&amp;cb=INSERT_RANDOM_NUMBER_HERE&amp;n=a5c63036″ border=”0″ alt=””></a> Source = e-Travel Blackboard: J.L Twenty-seven Australian tourism businesses were recognised for their hard work at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards (QATA) last Friday.Held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart, the QATA recognised tourism business excellence across more than 25 categories including tourist attractions, adventure tourism and unique accommodation.Melbourne Aquarium in Victoria won the award for Major Tourist Attractions and Sydney Central YHA in NSW won the Backpackers Accommodation award while Pure Tasmania won the Tourism Marketing accolade.Three tourism businesses were announced as the joint winners of the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism, seeing them each receive a $25,000 cash prize from the flag carrier.The winners of the award included Crystal Creek Meadows Luxury Cottages & Spa Retreat, Kangaroo Valley in NSW and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Cairns in Queensland.Stephen Limbrick Qantas Executive Manager Australia Sales congratulated the winners and commended them for their commitment to the environment.“Our winners demonstrate that any operator, large or small, can make a significant, positive impact on the environment and on their local communities by building sustainability into all aspects of their operations” he said.The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) also congratulated the nominees and QATA winners, more than half of which are members of ATEC, including the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.“These awards are a testament to the hard work, perseverance, drive and entrepreneurial spirit which these companies have shown” said ATEC Managing Director Matt Hingerty.“Our ATEC winners are a fine example of the spirit shown by the tourism industry in the face of adversity – despite a rough trot in the past twelve months these winners show that anything is possible.”last_img
